WISER entered into a JV with a Finnish listed Medtech company in China

Client background

The company was founded in Finland in 2004, with the vision to design a cost-effective handheld fundus camera to improve the efficiency of eye screenings and to transform diagnostic processes and enable early detection of diabetes and a number of other diseases. The company has been selling its cameras to hospitals in China since 2016.

The Challenge

Since 2021, China government issued a new policy which encouranges hospitals purchasing local-made medical devices. Further, the current business model (one-time hardware sales) cannot sustain. The company is trying to seek a new business model which can bring recurring revenue in China.

Our Role

We are their JV investor and operating partner, leading business development in China.

Our Approach

We set-up a local team and help developed a whole local solution, integrating their hardware with a Chinese AI for diagnosis, hosted at Huawei cloud locally. Further, we transform their business from hopspital to primary healthcare centers, pharma-stores, vision stores, and etc. A new service model with recurring revenue is established in China.
