Shukun Tech, a Chinese AI-Medical rising star on its Healthy China journey

Ma Chun'e, founder and CEO of Shukun Technology

"Commercial value must be built & realized on social value. Using technology to solve social problems is the foothold for a technology enterprise to exist, develop and grow."

Shukun Technology is the world's leading artificial intelligence medical and health technology platform enterprise. Its self-developed "digital doctor" includes more than 30 products, covering five key therapeutic areas, including heart, brain, abdomen, chest and musculoskeletal system, to help hospitals and doctors reduce diagnostic costs and improve diagnostic efficiency.

At present, digital doctor products have been used in high-viscosity daily use in more than 1,600 hospitals across the country, of which the coverage rate of tertiary hospitals has exceeded 30%. According to the number of medical device registration certificates obtained by the State Food and Drug Administration, Shukun Technology ranks first among artificial intelligence medical imaging solution providers in China.

Speaking of the fight against the epidemic in 2020, Ma Chun'e is still excited. On New Year's Eve in 2020, the outbreak of COVID-19 suddenly broke out. Shukun Technology quickly organized an elite R&D force. All staff gave up holiday breaks. After more than ten days of hard work, they successfully developed an intelligent image analysis system for COVID-19.

Ma Chun'e said that the characteristics of this system are fast, accurate and complete. It can detect lesions, confirm lesions and separate lesions in 3 seconds; complete the distribution, shape, density and other measurement of lesions in 10 seconds, and complete the staging and prognosis of lesions; combined with clinical experiments Laboratory inspection, based on full data learning, and ultimately achieve accurate diagnosis.

In a short period of time, Shukun Technology's COVID19 AI products have entered first-line anti-epidemic hospitals such as Wuhan Leishenshan Hospital, Wuhan University People's Hospital, Wuhan University Zhongnan Hospital, Wuhan Central Hospital, etc. Follow-up, grading of mild and severe patients, efficacy evaluation, and epidemic monitoring have played an important role.

In May and June 2020, when the epidemic in Beijing became serious, Shukun Technology provided AI products for the new coronary pneumonia to Beijing Ditan Hospital, You'an Hospital, Xiaotangshan Hospital, etc. in the form of public welfare donations.

In July 2021, heavy rains hit Zhengzhou, Xinxiang and other places in Henan, which brought huge pressure on local epidemic prevention and control. Shukun Technology has specially set up a special working group for "Aid Henan", donated a large amount of disinfection materials to the local area at the first time, and quickly delivered them to the disaster-stricken areas such as Zhengzhou City, Xinxiang City, Xinxiang Weihui, etc., and donated directly to the relevant local medical departments. with institutions.

In March 2022, the epidemic situation in Hong Kong is severe. Shukun Technology donated materials to the "Zhong Nanshan Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award Fund" of the China Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment Foundation to support Hong Kong's fight against the epidemic, donated thousands of DuPont medical protective clothing, and 3 sets of AI products for new coronary pneumonia to help Hong Kong epidemic prevention and control.

Shukun: make sustainable business

"In China, the stratification of medical resources is relatively serious, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou are rich in resources, and people's living standards are relatively high. However, there are still a large number of primary medical scenarios, where doctors are scarce, people's ability to pay is limited, and the ability to pay national medical insurance is also very limited. In response to this situation, Shukun Technology has done a lot of things in primary medical care, which is not a money-making thing from a commercial point of view." Ma Chun'e said.

The obvious gap between county-level medical resources and big cities highlights the value of AI technology.

Insufficient manpower and experience make it difficult for county hospitals to make full use of advanced medical imaging equipment even if they purchase advanced medical imaging equipment. Therefore, the use of AI products that integrate the knowledge of top experts to empower grass-roots hospitals and bring increased medical resources to them is undoubtedly an important breakthrough direction for county-level medical care.

Shukun Technology's "digital doctor" product portfolio based on AI has helped the imaging departments of many county hospitals achieve breakthroughs in diagnostic efficiency and quality.

The use of AI is expected to change the current situation of lack of talents in county-level medical care in China, and lead the development of county-level medical care into a fast lane. Shukun Technology's "digital doctor" product portfolio covers many county-level hospitals across the country. "Digital doctors" flood into hundreds of cities and thousands of counties like a spring breeze, helping primary medical care to achieve breakthroughs from 0 to 1 and from 1 to N.

For hospitals, while realizing the homogeneity of diagnosis and treatment, AI products can greatly improve the efficiency of diagnosis, save the time of doctors, and improve the hospital's diagnostic capabilities, operational efficiency and economic benefits. For patients, the rate of misdiagnosis, missed diagnosis, and duplication of examinations can be reduced, the experience of visiting a doctor can be improved, and expenses can be greatly reduced.

"To make medical treatment affordable for everyone, not only for a few people. This is the most fundamental driving force for technology to promote social progress." In Ma Chun'e's view, the premise of commercialization is the cooperation of hospitals, patients, the government and other parties. From this perspective, Shukun's business model is sustainable.

Shukun Technology's inclusive medical business model works because technology drives the market, and the market feeds back technology. "The product is good, and customers are willing to use it. In the application, the calculation model is continuously optimized and improved, and the product is getting better and better."

In the five years since its establishment, Shukun Technology has become a leader in the artificial intelligence medical imaging industry, covering more than 1,600 public hospitals and hundreds of medical examination institutions.

In December 2021, Shukun Technology launched the "Heart-Lung Screening AI to Protect Health - 10,000 Lung Cancer and Coronary Heart Disease Joint Screening Public Welfare Action" to provide free early lung cancer screening and coronary heart disease risk assessment for a total of 50,000 people at high risk. Carry out green channel referral or follow-up review guidance with dozens of tertiary hospitals across the country, and regularly conduct health follow-up and intervention for specific screening groups.

From its inception to the present, Shukun Technology has been actively practicing corporate social responsibility along the vision of Pratt & Whitney, and will continue to do so for a long time. As Ma Chun'e advocated: "Using scientific and technological means to make greater contributions to society, let ESG become part of our business."

"Enterprises use products and services to solve certain social problems, carry out commercial operations on the basis of realizing social value, and form a sustainable business model. This is a good company in my eyes." AI medical treatment represented by Shukun Technology Technology companies are using the power of technology to promote the implementation of the "Healthy China" strategy to everyone.
